How to Set and Delete Status Messages in Teams
Setting a status message in Teams can show alternative ways to contact you, letting others know you are out of the office, or any other information that you want to display.
1. Open the Microsoft Teams app.
2. Once opened, locate your profile picture or circle with your initials in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
3. Find where it says Set status message. Note: If you are using a minimized version of teams, some of the words may be cut off, but the location will stay the same.
4. You should then see the following. You can type in whatever message you want to be shown, such as alternative ways to contact you other than via Teams.
5. You can also choose to select if you want your message to appear above the chat box when someone goes to contact you by checking the box.
The above is what someone else sees when they go to chat with you if you check the box
6. After you decide if you want the message to display above the chat, you can select when you want the message to go away. Click the dropdown box under Clear status message after and choose the time you want. If you want it to end on a specific day, choose the Custom option and select the day and time you wish it to disappear after.
7. Once you have all those options filled out, you can select the Done button and your status message will now display.
8. If at any point you want to edit or delete your status message, you can do so by going to your initials/profile photo in the upper right hand corner like you did to set the message. This time, you can either select Edit status message or you can hover over your status message, a pencil and a garbage can icon should show up. If you click the pencil, it will take you to edit your message, and the garbage can will delete the message.
9. If you want to have a message automatically reply when you are messaged to on Teams, you can select the Schedule out of office link to the left of the Done button and it will automatically grab your automatic reply from your Outlook email if you have it set up. You can set the time frame it would respond here as well as edit any of the message. This can be useful if you are out of office and want others to be aware not only if they email you, but also if they message you on Teams.
